It has been announced, three weeks before the patch, that there is a serious bug in one of the networking portions called Samba in Windows® and other operating systems. This has raised questions as to why it was announced so early when it gives time to hackers to find the vulnerability and exploit it. Some are saying it was a marketing ploy by the company that discovered it. The company, SerNet, claims it gives administrators time to prepare for the patch that is scheduled for release on April 12, 2016.
Whatever the reason, the bug exists. Now we have to get it patched. If you’re responsible for Windows® updates on your own computers or a group at work then make sure the patch is installed on Tuesday. If you’re one of our Complete Care customers, be assured your computer is safe. The patch will be installed on Tuesday or the next time you turn your computer on. As part of the Complete Care program this is done for you automatically.
